about
This song came from many conversations about physical intimacy. Almost every time one of my homeboys talks about sex with women, they think they’re great at it. They assume their partners are thrilled by them. Just as often, when one of my homegirls mentions sex with men, they often describe mediocre to boring experiences, and on rare occasion good ones. There is some serious miscommunication happening. It seems the pride and selfishness of some of my homies prevents them from realizing their partners are often not thrilled at all. Also, some of my homegirls have been protecting the egos of their partners by not being honest with them in order to keep the peace. It made me wonder what would happen if men approached sex with humility and curiosity instead of arrogant assumption. If they asked questions, invited instruction, and reminded themselves intimacy is a conversation with a unique individual who has particular likes, dislikes, insecurities and kinks, not an impersonal skill you can be objectively good at. As someone who practices abstinence, it’s not difficult for me to accept I might not be the best at sex on my honeymoon. I assume I’m gonna have a lot to learn when it comes to pleasing my partner. But whether it’s your first experience with a person or someone you’ve been with many times, you might be surprised at what they say if you invite an honest conversation and are humble enough to listen and adjust. And maybe, intimacy will become equally exciting for everyone involved, not just the fellas. Honeymoon is from my next album which will take a close look at masculinity in general, and in the Black community specifically. I'll critique what is harmful and celebrate what is beautiful about Black male culture. For now, enjoy this sticky and sweet jam.
lyrics
You say put it where
Oooh I'm kinda skurrd
Baby is you sure
Ok word
Just say hol' up if it hurt
When it come to pleasing you baby
You know I am not an expert
But you got forever to teach me
And you know I'm eager to learn
Let's take turns
Hol'up
Let me breathe
This won't be no fantasy
If at first we don't succeed
We can do it
Do it do it
Messy silly timid sloppy
Quickly slowly smooth and choppy
Might not be a natural
But ima practice hard Mami
Hallelujah
Got me screamin’
Hallelujah
What you want I'll give it to ya
Baby put that blessin’ on me
Got me feelin’ so free
Every time you hold me
Hallelujah
How you doing baby just checking
Need to know we on the same page
Cause the only way to feel sexy
Is if everybody feel safe
You are such a beautiful blessin’
I stay grateful every day
Every single moment is precious
Making love or making pancakes
Let me know whatever you feelin’
Aint no pressure baby I'm chillin’
We could stop
We could cuddle
Watch a movie
Pop a bottle
We could try it over tomorrow
I want this to be without sorrow
Baby what is you in the mood for
Oh my hallelujah
Hallelujah
Got me screamin’ Hallelujah
What you want I'll give it to ya
Baby put that blessin’ on me
Got me feelin’ so free
Every time you hold me
Hallelujah
Boy you're curious and I love it
You be askin’ all about me
All my vision
All of my interests
All my fears and all of my kinks
All your baggage not afraid of it
Trust and honesty is the key
All your history I don't judge it
Baby just be present with me
Boy get intimate with my spirit
And my body ready to ride
Jump the broom because I'm committed
Our connection somethin’ divine
Neither one the other’s possession
We both choose this love in our lives
Now get over here and undress me
I’m about to make ya soul fly
Hallelujah
Got me screamin’ hallelujah
What you want I'll give it to ya
Baby put that blessin’ on me
Got me feelin’ so free
Every time you hold me
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Got me screamin’ hallelujah
What you want I'll give it to ya
Baby put that blessin’ on me
Got me feelin’ so free
Every time you hold me
Hallelujah
